website:https://www.cmu.edu.tw/In the 47th year of the Republic of China, the medical education environment in Taiwan was not very good. Apart from the National Taiwan University School of Medicine, there was only one private medical school in the south. Therefore, at that time, a group of people who loved traditional Chinese medicine, including Mr. Qin Qin, Chen Gu and Mr. Chen Gongyan, initiated the grand ambition to take root of traditional Chinese medicine in Taiwan. The school was built on a piece of land in the district, which is the current school site, and Qin Qin was promoted as the first chairman of the board. Over the past 60 years, there have been five chairman of the board, including Yang Zhaojia, Wang Depu, Xie Dongmin, and Mr. Chen Lifu. On March 18, 1990, the school held a board meeting, and all directors unanimously elected Director Cai Changhai as the 14th chairman of the school.
Chairman Cai is the 12th alumnus of the school's medical department and was awarded a doctor of medicine from Teikyo University in Japan. After graduating from university, he served in Linkou Chang Gung Hospital. Because of his love for his alma mater, he accepted the invitation of President Wang Tingfu of the Taichung Affiliated Hospital to serve in the Affiliated Hospital of his alma mater. After taking over as the second dean of the Taichung Affiliated Hospital of our school, he found that the medical resources in the central region were not so rich, and patients had to go to Taipei when they were seriously ill. Therefore, during his term of office, he expanded the Lifu Medical Building and invited famous doctors from all over the country to serve in the hospital. To improve the quality of medical care in the central region, it was appraised as a medical center by the Department of Health in 1989, and now it has become the best medical center in the central region. Since Chairman Cai took over the position of chairman, the school has been governed by alumni "dedicated to the reform of medical education, improving teaching quality, creating a good learning environment, cultivating outstanding medical talents, improving the overall academic image and status, and establishing a Chinese-Western integration, excellent and Chinese medical system with performance as a concept". Under his wise leadership and management, in August 1992, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to change its name to "China Medical University".
