Oral Biomedical Materials Laboratory
Research Field
Yu-Chih CHIANG is a full Professor and Head of Department of Restorative and Esthetic Dentistry, as well as the Chair of the Oral Biomaterials Core Lab at National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan. Additionally, he is also the Director at the National Taiwan University Molecular Imaging Center. Notably, he has previously served as the President of the Taiwan Academy of Operative Dentistry. His current research focuses on the development of multifunctional and designable biomaterials for regenerative medicine, specifically in the areas of dentin-pulp regeneration and vital pulp therapy. Additionally, his research encompasses studies on caries control, antimicrobial materials, de- and re-mineralization, adhesive dentistry science, fracture mechanics and Inlay/Onlay design. He boasts an impressive record of fifty-one research articles published in esteemed refereed journals, alongside numerous presentations of his research findings at both national and international conferences and symposia.
In our laboratory, our primary research focus encompasses the synthesis of dental composite resins and bonding agents, bioactive glasses, bioceramics, and anti-caries biomaterials. We meticulously characterize these materials for various applications including fracture mechanics, cariology, demineralization and remineralization processes, dentin-pulp regeneration, as well as utilize advanced techniques such as micro- and nano-computed tomography, image reconstruction, processing, and registration, and ultrahigh-speed imaging analysis.
Furthermore, we engage in the synthesis of photocatalysts tailored for tooth bleaching, anti-bacterial, and actively explore methodologies to effectively control dental caries. Our multifaceted research endeavors aim to advance dental materials science and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for dental care.
- Development of Antibacterial Bioactive Material-Infused Hybrid Composite for Enhanced Vital Pulp Therapy.
- Utilizing Tricalcium Silicate and Urethane Acrylate Modified Advanced Restorative Materials.
- Synthesis of Urethane and/or Epoxy-Based Adhesive Materials for Dental Applications.
