Industrial Engineering and Management

Introduction

Dr. Ding-Hsiang Huang received his Ph.D. degree in Engineering from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, National Yang-Ming Chiao-Tung University (NYCU) in June 2021. After receiving his Ph.D. degree, Dr. Huang joined the Department of Industrial Engineering and Enterprise Information at Tunghai University in 2022.

Dr. Huang’s research focuses on emerging areas and methods, including system reliability, optimization, soft computing, and machine learning. He applies these research methods to various practical systems, including smart manufacturing, sustainable development, supply chains, cloud computing networks, etc.

Dr. Huang also emphasizes the importance of programming in industrial engineering, explores the application of various emerging computational science methods to industrial engineering research, and explores the possibility of developing large-scale models for problems related to industrial engineering. So far, Dr. Huang has published more than twenty SCI-level journal papers and served several academic activities, conferences, and organizations.

The network analysis approach is a common technique for solving practical systems such as computer systems, telecommunication systems, power systems, logistics systems, manufacturing systems, and service systems. The classical network analysis methods introduced in operations research mostly set the factors of traffic, time, and cost in a deterministic mode. However, due to factors such as maintenance, failures, and some unexpected reasons, it makes sense from the customer's point of view to consider the capacity of the components in the network systems as stochastic. In addition, several practical factors are particularly important and need to be considered, such as time, capacity, and cost. The type of networks with stochastic capacities and practical factors is called stochastic-flow networks. The main objective of this research lab is to analyze a real system represented as a stochastic-flow network model, and then evaluate the network reliability of the system, which can be regarded as a system performance indicator for managers to make decisions. Besides, several methodologies and different fields are welcome to join our team and do research, such as linear programming, dynamic programming, machine learning, and so on.
