Jiumn-Yih Wu received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Chemical Engineering, National Tsing-Hua University, Hsin-Chu, Taiwan, in 1987 and 1992, respectively. He was an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at I-Shou University from 1996 to 2016. During his service at I-Shou University, he served as the Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering during the periods from 2003 to 2006 and from 2014 to 2016. He was invited to be a visiting researcher by the University of Minnesota in 1997 and the Beijing University of Chemical Technology in 2006. In 2016 he was appointed to be the Provost of National Quemoy University (NQU), Kinmen, Taiwan. In 2017 he joined the faculty of the Department of Food Science, NQU, where he is now a Full Professor. He served as the Provost with NQU for 6 years, from 2016 to 2022. His conspicuous research performance has led to his appointment as a Distinguished Professor of NQU in 2024.

His research interests include fermentation technology, functional microbes development, and biotransformation of bioactive molecules. The efforts for years have been devoted to bioprocess engineering which includes fermentation processing, optimized cultivation of microbial organisms, and biotransformation of triterpenoids and Isoflavones to be active pharmaceutical ingredients. Dr. Wu's lab sincerely recruits enthusiastic and ambitious students to join his group to do research and conduct NSTC/KKL projects together.
