Introduction

Wen-Ping Peng received his Ph.D. degree (2004) from the Department of Physics at National Taiwan University. He is now a professor and head of Department of Physics at National Dong Hwa University.

My research interest is on the development of novel mass spectrometric methods for rapid identification of viruses, bacteria, cells, and on development of novel ion soft landing techniques using linear ion trap to mass-select high mass biomolecules and nanoparticles. An ambient ion focusing device is also developed to prepare ions in atmospheric conditions with the temperature control on droplets. We have studied ion transmission of high mass biomolecules and nanoparticles using multiple quadrupoles and linear ion trap mass spectrometer, cellular endocytocysis of nano-/micro-particles, algorithm and theory for rapid analysis of electrospray mass spectra of bioparticles, searching biomarkers of clinical bacteria, identification of microorganisms using mass spectrometry techniques, protein/antibody analysis using nanomaterials, MALDI sample preparation, polymer analysis, and development of plasma ionization techniques.

Research Topics

●Ion trap theory and instrumentation
●Pathogen identification using mass spectrometry techniques
●MALDI sample preparation and multiply charged ion formation mechanism
●Electrospray mass spectral interpretation
●Aerosol, viral and bacterial particle detection and mass analysis
●Nanodiamond materials for biomedical applications
●Megadalton MALDI linear ion trap mass spectrometer
●Ambient ion soft landing using electrospray ionization

Job Description

The scan function of LIT-MS operating in frequency scanning mode, periodic excitation, and inverse-q scan will be  composed with Python program. The arbitrary waveforms will be executed and tested to  perform the MS/MS functions as well as their mass resolutions. The broadband power amplifier, geometry of linear ion trap, laser irradiation and focusing spot will be tested. Besides, a quadrupole mass filter will be employed to study the conditions for fragmentations of macroions.  The sample carriers and its motion will be programmed and tested.
