Shuchen Hsieh earned her PhD in Physical Chemistry in 2003 from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. Following a Post-doc appointment at NIST, in 2006 she joined the National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) Department of Chemistry as an Assistant Professor and in 2021, she was promoted to Distinguished Professor. Her research covers many aspects of Surface Chemistry and Scanning Probe Microscopy and tackles issues surrounding the creation of materials with varying surface properties (e.g. hydrophobicity, functional groups, hardness), microstructure pattern, self-assembled monolayers, and their impact on biomedicine and the environment. She is recipient of the 2011 Chinese Chemical Society: Young Chemist Award, a 2011 NSYSU distinguished junior research Professor, a 2015 MOST outstanding young scholars Research Grant, and the 2019 Taiwan International Inventor Prize Award.
Our research group at NSYSU is dedicated to exploring the control of nanoscale forces through surface design. We aim to gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental physical and chemical processes occurring at the nanoscale on surfaces. This knowledge serves as the foundation for potential future applications and device development. We welcome researchers who share our passion and possess expertise in chemistry and analysis field, AFM operation, and proficient English communication to join our team.
