Research Field
Marina Minhui Lu is the director of the Foreign Language & EMI Teaching Center at Hungkuang University. She has been teaching English at schools of different levels and writing English textbooks for high school students in Taiwan for more than 20 years. She also taught Chinese 101 and 102 at University of Northern Colorado, where she obtained her doctoral degree in the field of multilingual and multicultural education. The topic of her dissertation is Using the Learners-as-ethnographers Approach to Enhance Intercultural Learning among American College Students Learning Chinese as a Foreign Language. Her current research topics include, but are not limited to, Second Language Acquisition, Cross-cultural Communication, and Language Exchange.
The Foreign Language & EMI Teaching Center at Hungkuang University has two divisions: teaching and administrative, and run by a staff of five. The Center aims to promote teaching and learning of English and other foreign languages around the campus. In addition to developing and executing a curriculum of Freshman English, our main tasks include:
- organizing and providing foreign language courses (e.g., English, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese);
- assisting and encouraging our students to pass language tests (e.g., TOEIC and IELTS for English, JLPT for Japanese) and gain certificates;
- conducting English-related contests such as English Vocabulary Contest, English Speaking Contest, etc.; and
- conducting language and culture activities such as Language Exchange and Culture Showcase, English Cafe, English Corner, Learning Station, Writing Station, English Counseling, etc.
