Introduction

Don-Gey Liu was born in Tainan, Taiwan, in 1963. He received the B.S. degree from Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan University (NTU), in 1986; the M.S. degree from Institute of Electrical Engineering, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), in 1988; and the Ph. D. degree from Institute of Electronics, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), in 1992, respectively. Thereafter, he served the Chinese Air Forces as Lieutenant from 1992 to 1994. He was an officer in charge of maintaining wireless equipment. In 1994, he joined the Electronics Research and Service Organization, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ERSO/ITRI) in developing flat-panel displays by field-emission devices (FEDs). Then he went to Department of Electronic Engineering at Feng Chia University (FCU), Taichung, Taiwan, as Associate Professor. He is now Professor since 2001 and Head of the department from 2004 to 2008. From 2014, he serves as the director of the Ph. D. Program of Electrical and Communications Engineering. And from 2017, he is also the director of the Master Program of Biomedical Informatics and Biomedical Engineering. His current research interests are focused on high speed integrated circuit design for RF and analog applications.

Prof. Liu has filed 6 patents, and published over 40 journal papers, and 70 conference papers. He has been awarded more than 30 research contracts and grants from government agencies such as National Science Council (NSC) and Ministry Of Education, (MOE), and industries in Taiwan. In 1998, he was invited as Consultant for process of semiconductor wastes in research laboratories and hi-tech companies in Taiwan. From 2007 to 2010, he served as a member of Technical Program Committee for the International Meeting on Information Display (IMID) held in Daegu, South Korea. From 2010, he was invited as a keynote speaker for several International conferences held in Mainland China. In addition, Dr. Liu serves as a technical reviewer for several papers in Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE) and Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering (CIEE) journals. He also was a member of the Board of Reviewers for proposals in NSC from 2004 to 2007.

Prof. Liu received several awards in teaching and research from Feng Chia University and MOE. From 2004 to 2006, he was Co-chairperson in holding National Competition of Communication Researches. In his term of chairperson, he conducted the department to obtain the accreditation of Institute of Engineering Education, Taiwan (IEET) which has joined in Washington Covenants. In 2017, he also helped the advisory review of the IEET accreditation for Zhongshan Polytechic University, Guan Dong, China.

We are the Integrated Circuit System Laboratory of the department of Electronic Engineering, Feng Chia University. Now we are focusing the ressearch topics on the development of Time-to-Digital Converters (TDC) and its applications in LiDAR systems. We have groups studying SPAD sensors, TDC circuits implemented by FPGA and CMOS ASIC IC. As supported by national laboratories, we have submitted chip layouts for fabrications by TSMC and UMC. The signal process is performed by MATLAB and Unity 3D. We try to demonstrate the TDC data in a virtual reality space.
The whole system is promissing for applications in PET/CT and automatic driving systems.
