Fong-Chin Su is Chair Professor of Biomedical Engineering, the Past Executive Vice President (2019-2023), and Acting Dean of Engineering (2020/08-2021/06), National Cheng Kung University, Immediate Past President of World Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers, and Councilor of World Council of Biomechanics (2014-26). His research focuses on musculoskeletal biomechanics and medical innovation. With regard to professional activities, he is former Co-Editor-in-Chief, Biomedical Engineering OnLine (Springer Nature, 2014-20), Co-Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Medical and Biological Engineering (Springer, 2015-2020), Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Taiwan (2017/02-2018/07), CEO of Taiwan Biomedical Development Board (2017/02-2018/07), Founding Director of Medical Device Innovation Center (2011-17), NCKU, President of Taiwanese Society of Biomedical Engineering (2011-14), President of Taiwanese Society of Biomechanics (2002-03), and Executive Councilor of the Taiwan Industrial Technology Association (2002-16).
Dr. Su served as Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Taiwan (2017/02-2018/07), CEO of Taiwan Biomedical Development Board (2017/02-2018/07), and the Program Director of Engineering in Medicine, National Science Council, Taiwan (2007/01-2010/12).
Motion Lab focuses on neuromusculoskeletal biomechanics and medical devices innovation. Hand and wrist biomechanics, gait analysis, design of rehabilitation devices, robotic rehabilitation and orthopedic biomechanics are major research areas. Motion Lab are interested in novel scientific research to solve unmet need clinical problems for disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment and development of innovative medical technologies to benefit patients, especially in the ageing society.

Dr. Su has received several honors and awards including Distinguished Achievement Awards, the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society, ROC (2023), KT Li Honorary Scholarship, NCKU (2023), Outstanding Research Award of Ministry of Science and Technology (2021 & 2011), Life Achievement Award, Taiwanese Society of Biomechanics (2018), National Industrial Innovation Award (2017), AIMBE Fellows, the top 2% of the medical and biological engineering community (2016), Fellow of International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering (IAMBE, 2013), Han Wei Medal, the most prestigious award given by Taiwanese Society of Biomedical Engineering (2015), and You-Li Chou Medal, the most prestigious award given by Taiwanese Society of Biomechanics (2007). Others include outstanding engineering professors award of Chinese Institute of Engineers (2015), distinguished research award with more than 6 times grant, National Health Research Institute (2014), National Innovation Award (2010), Distinguished Professor Award (5 times x 3yrs, 2005, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018, 2021) NCKU, Distinguished Industry-Academia Collaboration Award, NCKU (2015, 2021), and Outstanding Engineering Faculty Research Award (2003), and Li Foundation Fellowship, etc. (1993-1994).
Dr. Su received his Ph.D. degree from Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Rochester, USA in 1989 with major in solid mechanics and biomechanics, Master degree from National Taiwan University and Bachelor degree from National Cheng Kung University.
