Research Field
Li-Wei Kang received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from National Chung Cheng University, Chiayi, Taiwan, in 1997, 1999, and 2005, respectively. Since Aug. 2019, he has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), Taipei, Taiwan, as an Associate Professor. He currently also serves as a Vice Dean of School of Continuing Education, NTNU. Before that, he worked for the Graduate School of Engineering Science and Technology-Doctoral Program, and the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Yunlin, Taiwan, as an Associate Professor from Aug. 2016–July 2019 and an Assistant Professor from Feb. 2013–July 2016. He also worked for the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan, as an Assistant Research Scholar during 2010–2013 and a postdoctoral research fellow during 2005–2010. His research interests include multimedia content analysis and multimedia communications. Dr. Kang served as an Editorial Board Member and a Guest Editor of the International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, a Guest Editor of the APSIPA Transactions on Signal and Information Processing, the Special Session Co-Chair of APSIPA ASC 2012, the Registration Co-Chair of APSIPA ASC 2013, a Ph.D. Forum committee member of APSIPA ASC 2018, and has been an organizing committee member of the IEEE ICCE-TW since 2015. Dr. Kang has also been a Multimedia Systems & Applications Technical Committee (MSATC) Member, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, and the Vice-Chair of APSIPA IVM (Image, Video, and Multimedia) TC. He received a top 10% Paper Award from the IEEE MMSP 2013, the best performance award from the SMP (Social Media Prediction) Challenge of the ACM MM 2019, and the best paper award of the APSIPA ASC 2020.
The Multimedia and Artificial Intelligence Lab., founded in Aug. 2019, at the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan Normal University, Taipei, Taiwan, is under the direction of Prof. Li-Wei Kang. The Lab is dedicated to research topics of Computer Vision, Image Processing, Multimedia Content Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, and various topics in multimedia applications. There are currently nine master students and four undergraduate students in the Lab, dedicating to the research of image restoration and enhancement techniques with applications as well as artificial intelligence-guided multimedia applications. The researches in the Lab are usually supported by projects from National Science and Technology Council, Taiwan, and Industrial/Academic Cooperation Projects.
