Introduction

Dr. Chen has been an Assistant Professor at National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan since Aug 2023. She has devoted about ten years of her career to improving the development of novel bioprocesses and biosystems to overcome challenges in biochemical and microbial engineering. The originality of her research is to study biochemical reactions and mass/energy transfer happening in various scales of dimensions. Through designing novel microbial processes and investigating fluid dynamics and reaction kinetics inside them, Dr. Chen's research results make contributions to the establishment of innovative bioprocesses from the perspectives of fluid mechanics and reaction dynamics. With her expertise in biochemical analysis, electrochemistry, and novel gas-phase bioreactions, Dr. Chen's Lab would like to create more positive impacts on the environment through green technology.

Welcome to our Laboratory of Innovative and Sustainable Bioprocess Design (LisBD), where inspiration fuels our quest to build sustainable dreams and shape a greener future. Our lab is an innovation incubator dedicated to developing bioprocesses that are not only efficient but also in harmony with our environment, reflecting nature's wisdom in our eco-mimic systems. Our pioneering work focuses on harnessing the power of multiphase bioreactions, a technique that uses different states of matter - gases, liquids, and solids simultaneously - to achieve optimal microbial reactions. Central to our research is the Eco-Mimic System, an innovative concept that mimics natural processes to create a self-sustaining environment for microbial growth and bioconversion. By mimicking the balance found in ecosystems, where different elements coexist and support each other, our research aims to be applied in bioremediation, carbon fixation, and high-value bioproduction.

Our lab name, LisBD, which also stands for "Live inspiringly, build dreams", is not just our slogan; it's our research approach. We encourage our team to look to nature for solutions, to understand its intricate relationships, and to design processes that are as resourceful and resilient as the ecosystems around us. Join us in the Laboratory of Innovative and Sustainable Bioprocess Design, where we don't just do science; we reimagine the possibilities of biotechnology to create a future where progress and the planet thrive together.
