Biomedical Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (BAIR) Lab
Research Field
CHENG-KAI LU (Senior Member, IEEE) received B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronics engineering from Fu Jen Catholic University, Taipei, Taiwan, in 2001 and 2003, respectively, and a Ph.D. degree in engineering from The University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, in 2012. After graduation, he worked as a director in the R&D division for Chyao Shiunn Electronic Industrial Co. (Shanghai) before joining Science & Technology Policy Research and Information Centre, National Applied Research Laboratories, Taiwan. He served as an executive member of the IEEE EMBS Malaysia Chapter and Penang Chapter from January 2017 to February 2018 and from 2018 onwards. He is currently a faculty member of the Department of Electrical Engineering National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), Taipei, Taiwan. Before he joined NTNU, he was a faculty member of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia, from 2016 to 2021. His research interests focus on medical imaging, embedded systems, artificial intelligence and their applications and clinical decision support systems. Apart from academic experience, Dr. Lu has 8+ years of industrial work experience. He has not only published his research works on peer-reviewed papers (book chapters, journal papers, conferences, and reports) but also filed several patents.
The Biomedical Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (BAIR) Lab, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), is now recruiting bachelor holders and postgraduate students to intern in 2023/2024. The internship duration is quite flexible and can be determined in consultation with each candidate. The BAIR Lab, supervised by Dr. Cheng-Kai Lu, is engaged in developing tailor-made artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for biomedical applications and robotics. In particular, the BAIR Lab closely cooperate with international R&D teams from the UK (Edinburgh University), Malaysia (Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, UTP; UCSI University, UCSI), Singapore (Tan Tock Seng Hospital) individually in three aspects of research works: music therapy (MT) robot, explainable artificial intelligence (XAI), and federated learning (FL). Conducting these projects will allow us to realize "cross-domain innovation" and "smart health" and to nurture a new generation of AI talents for Taiwan and the world.
