Introduction

Myself, Dr. Kiran, Assistant Professor at Tunghai University. After completing my formal education in India (State University and IISc, Bangalore), I moved to Taiwan for higher Research. Initially never thought, moving to Taiwan would be a great migration in Life where I have spent a quarter of my life. I am an Organic Chemist turned into a Photo-chemist with designing new Functional molecules.

At present, I am one of the Faculty members for the International Graduate Program BioMedical and Materials Science at the College of Science. I am also responsible for recruiting the international students for the program.

After continuously securing the Ministry of Science and Technology Fellowship for Postdoc (5 yrs), I was finally absorbed into Tunghai University to begin my career as an Independent Investigator.  One of the major achievements includes that Light mediated route for the preparation of Marine alkaloids with Topoisomerase I inhibition ability.  Furthermore, developing coumarin-based organo-catalysts for the transformation of toxic chemicals into useful-functionally modifiable cyano-derivatives.

Now, I am looking to expand my area, especially in designing Wearable UV filters, organic-based ophthalmic glasses, and contactless-acid base sensors. I like to spend time in the lab by performing reactions and studying their properties and in search of some UNUSUAL  molecular behavior that could be a GOLD-RUSH for several years!!!!

I am an Organic Chemist turned into a Photo-chemist with designing new Functional molecules. In our lab, we do target-oriented designing of the molecules and study their photophysical properties and switching behavior.  My interest in the research is mainly about designing molecular switches and luminescent molecules which can be further applied to develop technology that can assure Quality Life! For example, designing fluorescent molecular switches that can act as Sensors, especially for radioactive or carcinogenic elements, or molecular switches that can act as wearable UV filters. Apart from these fields, I also have an interest in studying molecular behavior during various chemical environments and developing sustainable methods to utilize toxic chemicals in useful molecular frameworks. Last, but not least, I like utilizing -natural products and modifying their structural features to fine-tune their functional and biological properties.
