Introduction

Wei-Fan Kuan is an Assistant Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering and a team leader in Office of Sustainable and Development at Chang Gung University, Taiwan. He received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 2008 and a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from University of Delaware in 2015. Before the academic career, Wei-Fan has 3-year industrial R&D experience with focus on lithium battery manufacturing. His current research interest includes all-solid-state lithium battery, high-voltage battery, catalysis, surface phenomena, polymer membrane, and battery recycling.

In Sustainable and Energy Science Lab, we develop advanced energy materials and upcycle our ways to sustainability. The primary focus of the Kuan laboratory lies in designing, building, and characterizing new materials for lithium battery applications. Currently, we have 1 postdoc, 1 research assistant, 7 master students, and 8 undergraduate students. Each student has their own project and under direct guidance from Prof. Kuan. In Kuan's lab, we are capable of making coin-type lithium battery from scratch (the development of pouch cell is ongoing). We also have sufficient instrument to support the research including glove box, in-situ FTIR, automatic film coater, potentiostat/galvanostat, tube furnace… etc. More cutting-edge characterization instrument is provided by our department including field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), XRD, Raman, DSC, TGA, DMA, rheometer, ICP-MS, Micromeritics ASAP 2020 Plus Adsorption Analyzer.
