Introduction

Prof. Jao has taken the lead of Taiwan Maritime Law Association by sitting on the Chair since May 2019 and in the same year elected and appointed as the Dean of College of Ocean Law & Policy, National Taiwan Ocean University which is the authoritative and the-right-to-speak law school in Taiwan and has been making every effort to promote the level of maritime law to that in accordance of national development. More beyond this, he continues to initiate the maritime legal strategy and ocean right of development supporting the sovereign Oceanic State Taiwan and try actively to establish a international ocean law and policy forum to represent the social responsibility of a law school and a professional civil association.

College of Ocean Law & Policy, National Taiwan Ocean University was established in February 2015, which is the only law school in Taiwan that focuses on the discipline of marine laws and policies. 

Prof. Juei-Cheng Jao’s Center, a research center which is affiliated with the College of Ocean Law & Policy, focus on the latest issue in international maritime law and policy and take up responsibility and leadership role in conducting research projects commissioned by the Taiwan government, aiming to provide innovative perspective and solution for initiating the maritime legal strategy and ocean right of development.


Research Topics

Prof. Juei-Cheng Jao has dedicated to the research of maritime law for many years and his ability has been affirmed in his field and further evidenced by the publish of the monograph ’Maritime Law’ in 2018 by San Min Publisher Co., Ltd which is the largest academic publisher in Taiwan. He puts some though of its first kind in Taiwan and initiates in this book that teaching, research, development and legislative and judicial policy of maritime law must, in addition to national marine policy, take international law nature into serious account despite of the classical view that maritime law is a branch of civil law.
