Research Field
Born and bred in Malaysia, Alexis went to the National University of Singapore for her tertiary education and stayed to work in the IT industry for almost 9 years before taking up the Japanese government’s Monbukagakusho (full) scholarship to do her Master in Waseda University, Japan. She was awarded a doctorate by Tamkang University, Taiwan in June 2019.
Though she majored in Computer and Information Sciences (BSc.), Management Information Systems (MSc.), and Management Sciences (Ph.D.), she has also been gainfully employed as a systems executive, systems analyst, systems service manager, system engineer, translator, proofreader, research assistant, journal editorial assistant, and project manager throughout the years. She had experience working in ticketing and events management, finance services (systems & applications), translation and localization, academic publication, and manufacturing industries.
She is currently pursuing projects that are interdisciplinary in nature.
Current on-going project:
- Multimodal Approach in Raising Awareness of Latent Gender Bias among Engineering Students and Reducing Gender Bias in STEM.
Will be submitting a few more project proposals before the end of this year that are related to education, mental well-being, self-efficacy, and anxiety.
Research focus:
- Gender Issues in STEM
- Intercultural competency
- Leadership (paternalistic and workplace stereotypes & biases)
- Intersectionality between management, technology, education, language and culture.
Currently interested in researching applications of generative AI for the education and mental well-being of undergraduates.
A multilingual interdisciplinary philomath with more than 10 years of professional/industry experience.

- Experienced in developing generative AI chatbots.
- Experienced in using NLP to extract information (unstructured text).
- Good understanding of generative AI, NLP, and LLMs.
- Good programming skills, especially in Python.
- Good command of English and academic writing.
- Good to have: Experienced in using SPSS for data analysis.
