Electro-Optical Materials and Semiconductor Devices Lab
Professor Chung-Hsin Lu is a well-known researcher in the field of Chemical Engineering & Material science particularly in the areas of Inorganic materials, design of nano-materials and nano-particles, Quantum dot materials, phosphors materials, and Li-ion batteries. He worked at the Department of Chemical Engineering at National Taiwan University for over three decades, where he was also the Dean of the College of Engineering.
Professor Lu received his Ph.D. in Inorganic materials from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1983 and joined the faculty of National Taiwan University in the year 1992. He has published over 300 research papers in prestigious international journals and has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field of Material Science.
In addition to his research and teaching activities, Professor Lu has also received many awards from national and international societies such as “The Ninth Nano Industry Technology Elite Award”, “Taiwan Chemical Engineering Society Jin Kaiying Award”, “National Science Council Outstanding Research Award for the third time”, “Tenured Distinguished Professor of National Taiwan University”, “National Science Council Distinguished Research Scholar”, “Taiwan Chemical Engineering Society Chemical Technology Award”, “Ten Outstanding Engineering Professors of the Chinese Society of Engineers”, “National Science Council Outstanding Research Award for the second time”, “The 39th Top Ten Outstanding Youth Awards”, “Lai Zaidi Professor Award from Taiwan Chemical Engineering Society”, “National Science Council Outstanding Research Award for the first time”. He is widely respected for his dedication to academic excellence and his efforts to promote the development of Material Science in Taiwan and beyond.
Our lab focuses on research related to energy materials, electro-optical materials, nano-materials, and semiconductor devices. We have educated a lot of Ph.D. and M.S. students. Most graduates entered high-tech companies. A lot of graduates in the lab entered into the most famous semiconductor company-TSMC in Taiwan.
‧ Nanosized Electronic Materials and Electro-optical Properties
The research for the nano-materials for semiconductors and the electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries is carried out. The preparation processes and the electrical properties are elaborated for semiconductor application.
‧ Phosphors for White-light LEDs
For the development of the LED industry, new phosphors are investigated for producing different emission wavelengths. The crystal structure, emission spectra, and microstructures of phosphors are analyzed.
‧ Quantum dots for display devices
Quantum dots are tiny semiconductor particles that emit light when stimulated with energy. The emission wavelength brightness, efficiency, and life span of Quantum dots are tuned by controlling the size of the dots, change in the synthesis technique, and variation of composition. This makes it possible to create displays with a wider color gamut. Quantum dots are also integrated into flexible substrates, making them ideal for use in flexible displays.
