Introduction

Currently, Dr. Hsiao-Hang Chung is an associate professor at the Department of Horticultural Science at National Ilan University. He got his M.S. from the Institute of Horticultural Science, National Taiwan University, Taiwan 2004. He received his Ph.D. in molecular biology from the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences, The University of Queensland, Australia 2012. During his Ph.D. studies, he joined Combio2009 Combined Conference in Christchurch, New Zealand, and earned the poster award. After he finished his Ph.D. degree, he came back to Taiwan and started his postdoctoral research at the Agriculture Biotechnology Research Center in Academia Sinica for around three years. In August 2015, he joined the Department of Horticultural Science at National Ilan University until now.

2021 – present   Associate Professor   Department of Horticultural Science, National Ilan University, Taiwan

2017 – 2021          Assistant Professor    Department of Horticultural Science, National Ilan University, Taiwan

2015 – 2017          Project Assistant Professor   Department of Horticultural Science, National Ilan University, Taiwan

2012 – 2015          Postdoctoral Research Fellow   Agricultural Biotechnology Research Center, Academia Sinica, Taiwan

Several research aspects are focused in the Lab. Firstly, we extract the pigments and other bioactive compounds from horticultural crops and other plants for further applications, such as food coloring and postharvest treatments (antifungal or antibacterial activities). Secondly, we also work on plant tissue culture not only for propagation but also to focus on the bioactive compounds from in vitro seedlings. Lately, we have been more interested in the postharvest handling of horticultural products and significantly modified atmosphere packaging (MAP). We welcome researchers and students to join us from various backgrounds and countries to make the lab an international hub.

Research Topics
  • Application of plant pigments, secondary metabolites, and bioactive compounds
  • Postharvest handling of Horticultural products
  • Modified atmosphere packaging of Horticultural products
  • Plant tissue culture
