Dr. Watson Kuo is Professor of Nanoscience at National Chung Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan. After 2 years working in Academia Sinca as a postdoctoral fellow, he entered NCHU as an assistant professor in 2004 and was promoted to associate professor in 2007 and full professor in 2012. From 2016 to 2020, he served as a board member in Physical Society of Taiwan. He ever served as the Chair of Department of Physics and Institute of Nanoscience, NCHU from 2019 to 2021, as the Vice Dean, The Office of R&D, NCHU from 2021 to 2023. His current research is focused mainly on superconductor quantum computing and development of bio and chemical sensors based on nanotechnology. Our laboratory(Quantum Device Lab, QDL) focuses on the innovations and advanced studies in quantum electronic devices in particular superconducting devices for quantum information applications. Since 2004 we have established two dilution refrigerators and a complete line of high-speed and real-time microwave instruments at NCHU. With the facilities we are able to characterize and test quantum processors based on transmons and X-mons. In the near future, we aim to implement machine learning algorithms for fully automated quantum processor testing.
QDL is joining a Nation-wide Project on Quantum Technology to Build a scalable superconducting quantum computer, from the year of 2022 to 2028. We are looking for members who are interested in quantum circuit modeling and structure design, quantum circuit characterization and data analysis, mitigation of control and readout errors. For this goal, we are looking for prospect postdoctoral fellows, PhD and master students, and undergraduate students who are interested in hardware technologies for quantum computers.
Distinguished Professor, NCHU
PhD degree from National Tsing Hua University(Taiwan) in 2002 and MS and BS from National Taiwan University(Taiwan).
