Optical Films and Interface Materials Lab
Research Field
Dr. Liu received his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University, Taiwan, in 1998. He joined National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan, in 2007. Dr. Liu has authored over one hundred articles published in leading journals and holds 17 patents related to surface science, nanomaterials, catalysis, and photovoltaics. His research interests include optical films, optoelectronic materials, solar cell colloids, surface chemistry, and environmental catalysis. He has received several awards, such as the Outstanding Engineering Professor Award from Chinese Institute of Engineers (Taichung Branch), the Outstanding Paper Award from Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Lai Zai-De Professor Award from Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers, a Gold Medal at the Seoul International Invention Fair, the Best International Invention Special Award in Thailand, and the Outstanding Industry-Academia Collaboration Project Award from National Science and Technical Council.
Our laboratory primarily focuses on the synthesis of nanomaterials and their applications in optical films, environmental catalysts, and solar cell components. The nanomaterials we prepare include highly uniform micro-/nanoparticles, high/low refractive index materials, silver nanowires, and infrared-absorbing materials. These materials can be fabricated into anti-reflective coatings, high-refractive-index encapsulation materials, transparent conductive films, transparent heat-insulating films, room-temperature formaldehyde decomposition catalysts, de-NOx catalysts, H₂S conversion catalysts, and solar cell components. Our research on solar cells mainly covers dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and perovskite solar cells (PSCs). By using acetate-surface-chelated active anatase titanium dioxide (TAc) as the compact and porous layers of the photoanode, we have achieved high-efficiency DSSCs under both high-temperature and low-temperature processing. Moreover, we have developed PSCs with efficiencies exceeding 20% under both glovebox and ambient conditions.
