Introduction

Dr. Raymond Kuo's major research interests include risk adjustment methodology for quality and cost in healthcare, comparative effectiveness research (comparing the effectiveness, benefits, and harms of different treatment options or policy interventions for a specific group of people), and the reform of health insurance systems and its impact on quality and delivery of healthcare. Quality of healthcare is the core foundation of my previous studies, and it is linked to several topics concerning the delivery of healthcare and the performance of the healthcare system. Dr. Kuo's current research projects focus on the impact of National Health Insurance on the efficiency and equity of the healthcare system.

As such, Dr. Kuo's laboratory operates as a 'dry lab,' focusing on data analysis rather than hands-on experimentation with advanced machinery or equipment. Our work significantly involves utilizing large-scale health insurance claims data, supplemented by primary data collected via surveys or other methodologies.

It is important to note that access to Taiwan's National Health Insurance Data or other large data sources collected by government agencies is restricted to native students. So, the applicant's research would be better grounded on data procured within the home country, as this would be a more viable approach. The alternative would be to use data from international studies.

Please contact Dr. Kuo before submitting your application and provide the following information for better evaluation and organizing the activities:

1. Are you familiar with using software, except Microsoft Excel, for data analysis? Such as R or SPSS.

2. Have you ever taken courses covering statistics or data analysis?

3. Will your project outcomes be counted/ incorporated as your learning achievement by your current undergraduate/graduate program?

4. Besides the technical part of your interest in analyzing real-world data, do you have any specific ideas or research questions to which you expect to find the answers through data analysis?
