Behavioral Ecology Lab
Research Field
I-Min Tso studies behavioral ecology, community structure and diversity of spiders in various ecosystems, and physiological ecology of spider silks, focusing on visual interaction between spider and insect prey and predators. He received his BS degree from Department of Biology, National Taiwan Normal University and PhD degree from Department of Biology, University of Michigan. He conducted his postdoc in Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. Tso is employed by Tunghai University, Taiwan where he has acted as department chair, director of Center for General Education, dean of Liberal Art College and is currently the director of Office of Experiential Learning and Social Practice. Tso receives Taiwan Model General Education Teacher Award in 2024, acts as mentor for undergraduate, graduate students and postdocs, has published over 100 scientific papers, and is currently the associate editor of Behavior and subject editor of Zoological Studies.
The laboratory of Dr. Tso has equipment and facilities for the following research topics:
1. Spider and insect vision-mediated behavioral interactions.
2. Community structure and diversity of spiders.
3. Biology and biomimetic application of spider silks.
4. Biological control of biting midges
5. Forest canopy research facilities
6. Pollination biology of honey bees
1. Behavioral ecology, especially on visual interaction between spider and insects.
2. Spider systematic and taxonomy
3. Community structure and diversity of spiders in forest ecosystems.
4. Biology of spider silks, especially aspects of physiological ecology.
