Introduction

Professor Jia-Chang Wang received his Ph.D. from the University of Liverpool, UK, in 1998. Since 2002, he has served as a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering/Institute of Mechatronic Engineering at National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) in Taipei City, Taiwan. During his tenure, he established the 3D Technology Lab and played a pivotal role in establishing the Additive Manufacturing Center for Mass Customization Production at NTUT, where he currently serves as Director. His research interests encompass additive manufacturing, reverse engineering, and machine vision technologies.

Professor Wang's contributions to industry collaboration were recognized with the Distinguished Award in Industry Collaboration 2017 for his successful technology transfer and industry partnerships. He holds an extensive portfolio of patents, including 11 Taiwan invention patents, 1 Japan patent, and 3 US patents, primarily in the field of additive manufacturing. From 2019 to 2022, he served as Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In 2022, he founded 3D Porcelain Technology Ltd., a startup company focused on innovative 3D printing applications.

The global market has undergone a significant transformation, shifting from mass-produced goods to personalized, customized products, driven by evolving consumer demands and a dynamic global economy. This era of Mass Customization (MC) presents manufacturers with unprecedented opportunities to enhance production capabilities and deliver added value, ensuring sustained competitiveness.

Our research focuses on Mass/Meta Customization, developing market-driven, turnkey systems. The lab's solutions, designed for commercialization through spin-in and spin-off initiatives, include customized insoles, spine braces, dental models, and all-ceramic restorations. For example, in the domain of customized insoles, we possess comprehensive technologies encompassing plantar digitization, digital design, and 3D printing. These solutions are tailored for integration into physical therapy clinics, orthotics companies, and consumer shoe stores.

Within the lab, we continue to advance 3D printing technologies, with a particular emphasis on developing proprietary VPP, MEX, and PBF systems for specialized applications
