Research Field
Jieh-Haur Chen has been a faculty member in the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, National Central University (NCU), since 2004 and was awarded the title of Lifetime Distinguished Professor in 2013. He holds an M.S. in Project Management from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA, and a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, WI, USA. Dr. Chen has more than 20 years of experience in construction engineering and management and computational intelligence.
Currently serving as the Associate Dean of College of Engineering in NCU, he has published more than 100 journal articles and 200 peer-reviewed conference papers. His research interests include computational intelligence, engineering managerial finance, smart city applications, and construction management. Dr. Chen serves as an editor for leading engineering management journals, a guest chair professor in several countries, and a senior advisor to various governmental organizations in Taiwan, including the National Science and Technology Council and ministries such as Education, National Defense, Labor, Interior Affairs, Examination, and Transportation and Communication.
Dr. Chen's achievements have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Extraordinary Military Service Award, NCU Outstanding Researcher of the Year, NCU Extraordinary Service Award, Honorable Mention in the Ministry of Economic Affairs Patent Competition, and the Distinguished Achievement Award from the National Science and Technology Council. He is a Fellow of the APEC Society of Project Forensics, the Safety and Health Association of Taiwan, and the UK’s Institute of Engineering and Technology (F.IET). Additionally, he is a Full Member of The Scientific Research Honor Society in the USA and a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (M.ASCE), USA.
Developing smart construction to match the industrial tendency making the society prosper is the ultimate goal for the Research Center of Smart Construction. The center develops research papers, patents, training curriculum, criteria, and provides services regarding applications for computational intelligence, occupational safety and health, construction accreditation, house transfer inspection, and universal design. Facing challenges from promoting intelligence to the industries gives great opportunities to establish the professional team to conduct collaborations with both domestic and international sectors. This benefits practitioners in international academic exchanges and industrial upgrades.
