Introduction

The PI Kuei-Hung Lai obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy in 2017 from both Kaohsiung Medical University and Uppsala University in Sweden. He subsequently served as a postdoctoral researcher at the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium and the Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine Research at Chang Gung University of Science and Technology, focusing on research in natural product chemistry and analytical chemistry. In 2020, he assumed the position of Assistant Professor in the Graduate Institute of Pharmacognosy at Taipei Medical University.

Professor Lai's research team focuses on exploring lead compounds from marine and terrestrial natural sources, with a primary emphasis on identifying active ingredients with potential for cancer and inflammation-related disease treatments, as well as evaluating their efficacy. They have uncovered numerous anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory active compounds, which have been published in several Q1 scientific journals in the field. The team has also secured multiple patents for their inventions. In the field of coral aquaculture, the team possesses expertise in adjusting growth conditions by leveraging the biological competition and defense mechanisms of corals, thereby stabilizing the production of anti-cancer compounds. In recent years, the team has combined big data and databases to establish a platform for mass spectrometry analysis, focusing on building compositional information on anti-inflammatory metabolites of traditional Chinese medicine. They are committed to evidence-based research in traditional Chinese medicine.
