My research has been motivated by the genetic and morphological diversity of the living creatures. Our laboratory focuses on understanding the genetic basis underlying reproductive changes during speciation. Some of our works showed that proteins involved in hybrid incompatibility and reproductive traits evolved rapidly due to positive Darwinism selection. In recent years, we applied genomic approaches to understand the genetic changes related to sexual isolation and ecological adaptation. We also analyzed the patterns of genome evolution to address lineage-specific codon usage evolution, dynamics of small segmental duplications, and the facts of gene duplication. In addition, we recently expanded our research direction to microbial communities. We focus on the diversity of bacteria in specialized fly species. We also try to understand the interactions between microbes, flies, and diets during evolution.
