Research Field
Prof. Terence Essomba is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the National Central University in Taiwan. He has studied in France where he received his PhD in Robotics from the University of Orleans in 2012. He has been a lecturer in the Institute of Technology of Orleans from 2012 to 2013 before moving to Taiwan for a Postdoc in 2013. He was the appointed as an Assistant Professor in the National Central University in 2015 and later promoted to Associate Professor in 2020. He serves as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems and Robotica is a regular review for journal such as Mechanism and Machine Theory and ASME and IEEE journals
MARS Lab. is conducting research on medical robots with its expertise in the optimization of mechanisms, the design of mechatronic devices, the intrumentation of medical instrument and the motion capture of medical procedures. Several medical applications are being addressed such as:
- Neuro-endoscopy
- Tele-echography
- Craniotomy
- Aneurism surgery
- Liposuction surgery
- Bone reduction surgery
- Cervical surgery
We are continuously looking for more medical applications to improve through mechanism and robotics.
Prof. Terence Essomba is conducting research in medical robotics and mechanism design and is teaching courses related to robotics and mechanical design. He has proposed specific robotic and mechanism designs for several medical application such as craniotomy, neuro-endoscopy, tele-echography, liposuction, bone reduction surgery, etc.

Job Description
The candidate will be tasked to design a robotic prototype of new parallel manipulator. The objective of the internship is to provide at least:
- the complete and realistic CAD
- the procurement list for all commercial components
- the drawing files of all parts for fabrication
- the documentation for the mounting and control of the robot
Preferred Intern Education Level
Minimum BSc level or equivalent
Student in MSc preferred
