Cell and Tissue Enginereing Laboratory
Dr. P. Grace Chao is the Professor of Biomedical Engineering and director of the Cellular and Tissue Enginereing Lab at National Taiwan University. She was trained at National Tsing-hua University in Hsinchu and Columbia University in New York.
How do cells sense and respond to their environment? With tools in mechanics, microfabrication, polymer science, and cell biology, we try to answer these questions in mechanobiology and cell-material interactions. Some of our main focus are how dimensionality (2D vs 3D), mechanics (stiffness), and organization (topography, anisotropy) influence cell behaviors and phenotype. We also stimulate the cell through deformation, fluid flow and electric fields, to understand the dynamic effects of physical forces on cells. These understandings can help us better control the cells and optimize tissue regeneration.
