Biomedical Instrumentation and Sensors Laboratory
Research Field
Professor Congo Tak Shing Ching obtained his BSc (Hons) in Prosthetics and Orthotics with first class honor from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in 1999 and received his MPhil in Biomedical Engineering from PolyU in 2002. He went on to gain a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, in 2005. His main interests in research are in the area of biomedical instrumentation design, biosensors, tissue bioimpedance, biomedical electronics, biomedical optoelectronic, AIoT healthcare, assistive healthcare technologies, as well as non-invasive and transdermal metabolites/biomarkers extraction and drugs delivery.
It is well known that prevention is better than cure. So, our laboratory focuses on researching noninvasive medical measurement, diagnostic and therapeutic methods in order to reduce the incidence or mortality rate for the people who are at the high risk of diseases, like heart diseases, cancers and etc. Our laboratory mainly focuses on three research categories:
(1) Biomedical Instrumentation Design
(2) Point of Care Diagnostics
(3) Non-Invasive Diagnostics
We have a number of hospital collaborations and balance our research projects between basic and applied research related to medical diagnostics and biomedical instrumentation. To achieve our laboratory mission, we conduct basic and clinical studies so as to prove the correctness of our concepts. By the use of these research findings, we can develop new medical diagnostic methods and biomedical instrumentations.
(1) Research on biosensors in the fields of disease diagnosis, environmental testing, food safety monitoring, and agricultural monitoring
(2) Instrument design research in the fields of biomedicine, environmental engineering, food science, agriculture, etc.
(3) Research on artificial intelligence in biomedical engineering and agriculture
