Introduction

Professor Kevin Chi-Wen Lin is a Distinguished Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering Science & Technology and Safety Health and Environmental Engineering Department, Taiwan. Dr. Lin has completed his PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of California at Davis, USA. He served as Director of the Taiwan Association for Green and Low-carbon Technology, the Committee on Environmental Protection Fund Management, and the Committee on Environmental Impact Assessment for several County Governments in Taiwan. He has received 10 times National awards in the “Special Outstanding Talent Award” from the National Science and Technology Council, Taiwan, and holds 4 patents. Dr. Lin is the author of more than 120 scientific articles in international journals and 250 papers in the conference, which are related to bioenergy and biofuels, environmental biotechnology, wastewater treatment, and soil and groundwater bioremediation.

There are currently 14 members in the lab besides me. They include one post-doctoral researcher, five master’s degree students, eight undergraduate subject students, and one full-time research assistant. The lab space is about 125 square meters. The research equipment is divided into electrochemical equipment (Potentiostat, RRDE), testing and analyzing equipment (GC, AA, HPLC, Microwave digester), and general analyzing equipment.

Research Topics

Specific topics: Bioenergy and Biofuels; Environmental Engineering; Microbial Fuel Cell Technology; Biofiltration for VOCs; Soil and Groundwater Bioremediation; Environmental Biotechnology. Recent research topics of particular interest are (1) Biohydrogen production in microbial electrolysis cells without an external power supply; (2)Increasing CO2 uptake and PHA/PHB production by growing bacteria-microalgae consortium in the cathode of microbial electrosynthesis cell; (3) Development of electrochemical materials and technologies based on microbial fuel cells and their application to the recovery and recycling of precious metals; (4) Application of microbial fuel cells in the treatment and recycling of organic waste gas from high-tech industries; (5) Development of various types of biochar for use as electrode materials to produce electricity and capture carbon dioxide; (6) Optimization of various electrode materials.
