Ping-Shan Lai received his B.S. in chemistry from National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) in 2000. He received his Ph.D. from National Taiwan University under the supervision of Prof. Cheng-Yi Wang in 2006, before completing a 6-month postdoctoral fellowship at National Chung Hsing University. After conducting 3-month research at the University of Tokyo in Japan as a visiting researcher, he officially joined Chung Hsing University as an Assistant Professor. He has worked as a professor since 2015 and as a division chief of the Center of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (NCHU) from 2014 to 2017.
His research interests mainly focus on developing functionalized nanomaterials to resolve clinical problems, including the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer, drug resistance...etc.
The laboratory has advanced equipment to assist researchers and students in carrying out their projects from in vitro to in vivo research. Students are encouraged to find their research interests and form logical research thinking. From there, they are divided into teams according to their research orientation.
There is a weekly meeting to report to Prof. Lai about each member's research progress.
1. Development of novel multifunctional nanocarriers such as IONP, silica-based nano particle, and Hyaluronic acid-based conjugation with anticancer drugs.
2. Research on the mechanism of intracellular drug release
3. In vivo anti-tumor effect evaluation of nanocarriers
4. Oral dosage form of the drug development
5. Development of immune formulations
6. Research and development of health food and cosmetic care products

Interns will participate in experimental design, conduct experiments, and analyze data.
They will also have the chance to learn about the cutting-edge analytical equipment.
Interns will be trained and participate in cell experiments and animal experiments.
Preferred Intern Education Level
Prefer PhD, and Master students from related fields.
Undergraduates will be considered.
Skill sets or Qualities
Basic understanding of the drug synthesis process and laboratory techniques.
Having skills in animal experimentation (if not, the intern will be trained).
Independent thinking, eager to learn, and adaptable.
Good communication ability in English (or Chinese - Mandarin).
