Introduction

Jen-Chang Yang is a professor at the Graduate Institute of Nanomedicine and Medical Engineering at Taipei Medical University and a joint-appointment professor at the School of Dentistry, the International Ph.D. Program in Biomedical Engineering and, the TMU Research Center of Biomedical Devices. He has a Ph.D. in Polymer Engineering from the University of Akron, USAHe has been working at Taipei Medical University since 2007 and has served as the vice dean of the College of Biomedical Engineering since 2019His research interests include oral biomaterials, medical devices, silk protein, biomimetic materials, bioceramics, nanofiber technology, ionotronic hydrogels, and weight management hydrogels. He has published more than 100 research papers and participated in many nanomedicine and biomedical engineering projects

Prof. Jen-Chang Yang (H=18) majors in the fields of regenerative medicine as well as dental
materials. He is also an expert in the regulation of materials to stem cell fate. Synthesis of
bioceramics and nanomaterials will be performed in the Graduate Institute of Nanomedicine and
Medical Engineering, College of Biomedical Engineering, Taipei Medical University. The scientific
expertise of this department in the preparation of nanomaterials with silk fibroin (SF) and its
derivatives is very high. The sonoelectrochemistry process of preparing the oxidized SF nanofibrils
without dialysis is unique. Also, the laboratories of this department are equipped with a modern
technique for the characterization of materials obtained by Mastersizer 3000, Rheometer
(Anton Paar), contact angle, and microhardness tester. The XRD, SEM, TG/DTA, and AFM
measurements will be performed in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology.
This laboratory will also conduct the ISO 10993 biocompatibility and in vivo study of novel injectable cement. Both FTIR microscopes and Raman microscopes are available for
micro-region material characterization. The physicochemical properties of injectable cement-like
setting time, radiopacity, injectability, and diametral tensile strength (DTS) will be investigated
using Vicat needle, dental X-ray system, dynamic contact angle, and texture profile analyzer (TPA),
respectively. For the evaluations of cell/ molecular biology, Yang’s team has a cell incubator, clean
bench, spectrophotometer, RT-PCR, q-PCR, inverted fluorescence microscope, western blot
system, and iBright imaging systems, which can be used to analyze the influences of prepared
nanomaterials to cells.
