Introduction

Dr. Chen-Yu Chen received his B.S. and M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from National Cheng-Kung University in Taiwan. He also received his Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from National Cheng-Kung University in 2010. Dr. Chen-Yu Chen received the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society of the Republic of China in 2005. He worked as a post-doctoral scholar in Advanced Propulsion and Power System Research Center, National Cheng-Kung University before joining Chinese Culture University in 2013. He was also awarded as the excellent post-doctor during his draftee service in National Cheng-Kung University in 2011. Dr. Chen is currently an associate professor of Mechanical Engineering at the National Central University, Taiwan. 

Dr. Chen’s research interests cover a wide range of topics in energy systems that include PEM and AEM H2 electrolysis, PEMFC, HT-PEMFC, stack design, heat and water management of fuel cells, hydrogen energy technologies, fuel cell humidifiers and electrochemical systems such as lithium batteries and air-metal batteries. He has over 20-year experience and several publications in fuel cells and hydrogen technologies until now. From 2013 to present, he has received more than 30 research projects awarded by the National Science and Technology Council, Taiwan. He also received the NSTC Ta-You Wu Memorial Award, NSTC Excellent Young Scholar Award, and Excellent Young Scholar Award from the Taiwan Association for Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cell in 2022. He is a member of Board of Directors of the Taiwan Association for Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cell.

Our lab focuses on the research and development on  green H2 production technogies, the PEMFCs with metallic bipolar plate, high temperature PEMFCs, and hydrogen recovery and purificaiton via electrochemical pump. We welcome interns who are interested in hydrogen energy and feul cell technologies. The following subjects are the currently on-going projects : 

  1. Catalyst development,  cell modification and hydrogen production test of Anion Exchange Membrane Electrolyzer.
  2. Development and Life Improvement of the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell with Aluminum Alloy Bipolar Plates.
  3. Development and Advising of a Hydrogen Purification System via the Electrochemical Hydrogen Pump Technology.
  4. Thermal Resistance Model and Water Management for the PEMFC Stacks with Metallic Bipolar Plate.
